Barney comes to the Customer Manufacturing Group with twenty years of strategic planning, management and reengineering implementation experience. The major focus of his practice has been in working with top management teams leading, planning and implementing the shift into deregulated markets.
He has had his own consulting and training company for fifteen years working with large corporations in major organizational change efforts and small start-up companies on business strategy. He has split his consulting practice between working with major gas and electric utilities (including: Pacific Gas & Electric Company; since 1990, 5 divisions, 450 managers; Southern California Edison Company; since 1994, 4 departments, 90 managers; Nevada Power Company; 1994, 3 departments, 18 managers); telecommunications utilities (Pacific Bell; since 1985, 15 divisions, 3500 managers, 2 company wide task forces; McCaw Communications, Cellular One; Since 1990, 5 departments, 200 managers) and start-up and medium size high technology firms (Aldus, Adobe, Strategic Mapping, Network Computing, SoHo Communications).
Barney received his B.S. in Business Administration (Organizational Behavior) from the University of Southern California and completed his graduate work at California State University at San Jose in the Masters of Business Administration program.
Barney held a full time faculty post in Organizational Behavior and Development and Business Strategy in the international MBA program at the Monterey Institute of International Studies for three years. In addition, he has taught part time as a Lecturer in the College of Business at California State University at San Jose in both the graduate and undergraduate levels for four years. He has served as a general manager of two wineries for seven years and has consulted to seven start-up (Glen Ellen Winery, Benziger Family Ranch, Stony Ridge, Bernardus) wineries. He has designed, authored and lead several hundred custom working sessions and workshops.
